If you want real analysis based on research and digging deeper into a story, No Agenda is your show. To keep it alive please support No Agenda any way you can. There are excellent ideas on the support page here.

Note from John C. Dvorak

Dear Producer,

This is the nerdiest thing I have ever put into the newsletter.

As the show donations start to drift downward this time of year, you have a good chance to become an Executive Producer with little competition tomorrow.

I was thinking to myself what is the weirdest number that would make a reasonable contribution easy and likely to bolster tomorrow’s show?

What would get people who have never donated to consider starting now?

I took the easy route and looked into the book of knowledge to find, literally, the world’s weirdest number. Maybe it would be a great thematic donation for the rest of the year.

WEIRDEST NUMBER

After all, it is weird in itself that your No Agenda Show exists within today’s tightly controlled media landscape, yes?

So here it is. 70. It’s already weird. And it is very nerdy and should appeal to every dude and dudette named Ben. Here is the explanation from this page.

“In number theory, a weird number is a natural number that is abundant but not semiperfect. In other words, the sum of the proper divisors (divisors including 1 but not itself) of the number is greater than the number, but no subset of those divisors sums to the number itself.”

70

“The smallest weird number is 70. Its proper divisors are 1, 2, 5, 7, 10, 14, and 35; these sum to 74, but no subset of these sums to 70. The number 12, for example, is abundant but not weird, because the proper divisors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, which sum to 16; but 2+4+6 = 12.”

So this week’s weird donation to celebrate your No Agenda show is 70. Click here

Hopefully this will save the show. And it will answer the question as to how many uber-geeks and number freaks are in the audience. Otherwise consider contributing your own weird amount by clicking here.

Sincerely,

PS You can still celebrate show 809 by itself with this donation by clicking here.

Yes, I’m back.
I’m back because this idea needs all the help it can get.
